We know that you’re excited to return to Hale Pau Hana, but might be unsure about what you can and can’t do around the island right now. We’ve got you covered! Read on to learn more about activities, where to find food, hitting the beach, and more.

Are the beaches and parks open?

Yes! Grab your swimsuit and get ready to put your toes in the sand — Maui beaches are open! You can also grab a shady spot in the park for an afternoon picnic, or take a stroll on your favorite path in the morning. All public beaches, parks and trails are open but if you want to stick close to home, the best beach in Maui is just steps from your door!

Can I go snorkeling? Is it safe to rent equipment?

Yes! Whether you like to keep it simple and swim with the turtles right off Kamaole Beach II, or head to another spot on the island, snorkeling is safe and easily accessible. Many companies offer guided snorkeling tours and are beginning to accept reservations again, with new health and safety measures in place. If you want to head out on your own, you can rent equipment from several places within walking distance of Hale Pau Hana. It is standard for shops to sterilize gear between uses, but be sure to ask for details before renting. Then head out to one of these incredible spots and find those fish!

Can I visit State and National Parks, like the Iao Valley and Haleakalā?

Yes! While there are some restrictions in place, many of Hawaii’s State and National parks are open to the public. Stretch your legs while taking in Maui’s incredible beauty and diversity of flora and fauna. Keep in mind that visitor centers, restrooms, and other public facilities may still be closed to the public. Find the most current information about State Parks here, and National Parks here. Plan ahead and take a hike!

What about the Road to Hana?

There’s nothing quite like exploring the beauty along the road to Hana! If you like waterfalls, hidden bays, and swimming holes then this is the drive for you. The road to Hana is open to visitors and there are many places along the way to explore and get some fresh air. While several shops and cafes along the way are also open for business, you’ll want to pack a picnic just in case, stay flexible, and remember to enjoy the adventure!

Are the cafes and restaurants open?

What’s better than coffee on the lanai in the morning? Coffee and a cinnamon roll! Many of our favorite places are open for business, and while some are only offering to-go services others have outdoor and socially distanced seating available. From tacos on the beach, to a poke bowl on your lanai, you won’t go hungry during your stay. Here’s a sample of what’s on the menu!

I really want to go to a luau… are they happening right now?

Yes! There are many opportunities to take in a luau during your visit. Most venues are able to offer their usual shows with some new protocols in place, and you can even enjoy a traditional Hawaiian meal.
